Virgin Kitesurfing Armada sets new World Record in Cape Town!

The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada took place on 30th January in South Africa, bringing together hundreds of kitesurfers in an attempt to break the record for the ‘Largest Parade of Kitesurfers’, currently held by Spain. In fantastic conditions, the kiting community came together to support the event, and the atmosphere on the beach was fantastic. After 3 hours of kitesurfing the World Record was smashed – with a total of 415 kitesurfers completing the one mile course between Dolphin Beach and Doodles. Director of the Kitesurfing Armada Dan Charlish said, ‘We always hoped the Kitesurfing Armada in Cape Town would be spectacular – and it didn’t let us down. It was an amazing day, the wind couldn’t have been better and the view of hundreds of kiters together in front of Table Mountain was awesome. A huge thank you to everyone who came down, got involved and made the event such a success!’ The Virgin Kitesurfing Armada was supporting 3 charities including local Cape Town organisation the SAVE Foundation, who support township children through education and sports development – and many of the young people they work with were helping on the beach and landing kites.
