With a promising forecast for day two of the 2022 Zoo Station Bol, Croatia, PWA World Tour ** there was plenty of action during the afternoon in Bol. Two further eliminations were completed by the end of the day as the racing action heats up in Croatia. With with wind remaining moderately strong the foil was the choice of weapon for the majority of the sailors.

Women’s

Defending event champion – Sara Wennekes (Future Fly / Severne Sails) – enjoyed another fine day on Sunday as the Dutch girl reeled off back-to-back bullets to complete a fantastic hat-trick, which puts her in commanding lead after the opening two days. With a perfect record thus far, Wennekes currently holds a 6.9 point advantage over her closest rival – Blanca Alabau (Starboard / Severne Sails / Starboard Foils) – who herself enjoyed a great day as the young Spaniard climbed two places from the overnight rankings from 4th to second place. Marion Mortefon (Fanatic / Duotone / LOKEFOIL) currently completes the top 3 with Helle Oppedal (Starboard / Severne Sails) falling one place to fourth after being disqualified from the third elimination.

Men’s

In the Men’s, the top 3 remains unchanged from yesterday with reigning Slalom World Champion – Nicolas Goyard (Phantom / Phantom Sails / Phantom Foils) – still leading the way after recording his second bullet of the event in elimination 2, followed by a solid 5th place in the last elimination of the day.

Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Severne Sails / Starboard Foil) is Goyard’s closet rival at the moment with the 2016 World Champion producing another consistent day of racing, which saw the Italian record two 4th place finishes. Iachino currently trails Goyard by 3.6 points, whilst fellow countryman – Bruno Martini (JP / NeilPryde) – is a further 5 points behind. However, that gap could very well be reduced when the discard comes into play after Elimination 4, as Martini missed out on the Winners’ Final in Elimination 2, so he will now be looking to discard a 9th place finish.

The top 5 is currently completed by Enrico Marotti (JP / NeilPryde) and Basile Jacquin (FMX Racing / Point-7 / Phantom Foils).

Elsewhere, Amado Vrieswijk (Future Fly / Severne Sails) bounced back from a slow start to the event by claiming his first bullet on the Slalom PWA World Tour with a brilliant display of sailing in Elimination 3. It is still a long way back for the Bonairean – currently 23rd – but he’ll be delighted that everything clicked into place in the last race yesterday and will now look to build upon that victory.
