WKC joins GKA

The World Kiteboarding Championships (WKC) and the Global Kitesports Association (GKA) are now one new unified World Tour. From 2019 onwards, the GKA will represent the professional freestyle kiteboarding and professional wave-kitesurfing. After years of separation between professional freestyle kiteboarding and professional wave-kitesurfing, both disciplines are now united in one organisation: the GKA. WKC Cumbuco – Elite Championship – Semi-Finals

It was a rainy start to day three in Cumbuco, Brazil, but by 11am the clouds opened up and the competition commenced. Both the Men’s and Women’s semi-finals were completed with amazing conditions, with 8 male and 8 female athletes battling for a position in tomorrow’s finals. Men’s Semi – Final One An incredible level of riding was displayed from the very start as these 4 powerful athletes performed highly technical tricks from the very start of the semi-finals. Gianmaria Coccoluto performed incredibly, opening with a massive Backside 317 and followed it up with a Heart Attack 7 scoring 9.23 that left the crowds in a frenzy. It was incredibly well executed, and really raised the bar during this difficult semi-final heat. Liam Whaley was going big, and landed a fantastic Slim 7 that gave him the lead on the 5th trick attempt. Adeuri Corniel from the Dominican Republic started with three strong tricks but two consecutive crashes put some pressure on him towards the end of the heat. WKC Cumbuco – Elite Championship – Day One

We were welcomed once again with perfect conditions in Cumbuco, Brazil for Day One of the Elite Championship. The Men’s Qualifier Championship was first in sequence as the final heat still needed to be completed, followed by Rounds 1 and 2 of the Men’s Elite Championship. Men’s Qualifier Championship Final There were four contenders for this impressive Men’s Final, that commenced at 9.30 am at the beautiful spot of Duro Beach. Louka Pitot from France had another fantastic start, showing the same clean precision he had performed with on previous days. He landed a great KGB 5, Backside 315 and a 317. Juan Rodriguez from Colombia has truly made a name for himself during this Qualifier Championship event, and opened with a powerful Double Hinterberger Mobe 5. Local rider Erick Anderson rode with style and power, clearly familiar and comfortable with the conditions at his home spot. He performed a spectacular Slim 7 scoring 8.3 points. Alex Neto from Brazil struggled for the start of his heat but gradually built up his scores as the heat progressed. It was a spectacular final that all came down to the last two trick attempts. WKC Cumbuco – Qualifier Championship – Day Two

The day commenced with ideal conditions and a promising forecast at Duro Beach, Cumbuco, allowing for the completion of full Women’s Qualifier Championship, and up to the third trick attempt of the Men’s Qualifier final. Heat 6 The completion of Heat 6 was first in sequence. Here, Brazilian athlete Alex Neto stormed his way through, landing a powered Slim 7 scoring him 8.27 points. He continued to rack up the scores and passed directly through to Round 3. Stino Mul and Erisverton Ribeiro pass through to Round 2. Heat 7 Heat 7 saw local rider Manoel Soares battle agains Moroccan Jonas Ouahmid, both riders hoping to advance directly to Round 3. Manoel started strong, landing a powered Backside 317, and continued his good riding with a Front Blind Mobe and Backmobe 5. Ouahmid commenced with a Double Heart Attack followed by a Slim 5. The strong performance from Soares put him through to Round 3, and Ouhmid together with Mendes pass through to Round 2. WKC Cumbuco – Qualifier Championship – Day One

The WKC once again returns to the spectacular Duro Beach, Cumbuco, Brazil for our final event of the year. The registration for the Qualifier Championship commenced at 9am, and saw a fantastic turn out of 27 men and 8 women from 14 different countries sign up. The Qualifier Championship is an opportunity for the riders to enter into the Elite for 2019, but also an opportunity to win the wildcard into the Elite Championship event here this week. The Qualifier Championship is a ideal opportunity to spot new up-and-coming talent from local and international riders. The competition commenced at 1.30 pm local time. The winners from the heats in Round 1 advance directly to Round 3. Those placing 2nd and 3rd pass to Round 2, and those finishing 4th are eliminated from the Qualifier Championship. Men’s Round 1 Heat 1 The level was high from the very start, and Louka Pitot from France set the tone from the get go. He stormed through his first heat of the competition landing a varied array of tricks including a clean Backside 315 and Crowmobe 5. He cleared his way directly through to Round 3. WKC Dakhla – Elite Championship – Day Four

The penultimate day of the Elite Championship in Dakhla was blessed once again with ideal freestyle wind conditions. The competition commenced at 1pm, completing the Women’s Semi-finals and the Men’s Small Final. Women’s Semi – Finals Heat 7 Heat 7 was first in sequence. 14 year old Mikaili Sol from Brazil put on a strong performance that once again served to enhance her reputation as a top freestyle kiteboarder. With a very solid array of tricks, she received many high scores including a 9.4 KGB and a 9.73 Double Heart Attack. Francesca Bagnoli kept up a steady rhythm behind her, landing a powered Heart Attack scoring 8.6 points. She advances to tomorrow’s finals together with Sol. Heat 8 Therese Taabbel performed solidly for Heat 8, as the landed a Slim Chance scoring 8.33. Although she crashed her last two attempts, she had accumulated a good lead and advanced into the final. Paula Novotna from the Czech republic joins her after also riding a consistent heat and gaining some high scores. Men’s Small Final Gianmaria Coccoluto from Italy was once again on fine form today, as he successfully landed trick after trick, including a powerful 317. Val Garat managed 4 solid …

WKC Dakhla – Elite Championship – Day Three

It was another windy day in Dakhla, Morocco for the start of Round 3 for the Men. The good conditions continued throughout the day, allowing the completion for Round 3 and the Semi-Finals for the Men and Round 2 for Women, with lots of twists and turns, and unexpected exits. Heat 13 It was a close start for all 4 athletes in Heat 13, as it all came down to the final trick. Anthar Racca landed 4 solid tricks to start but then had several crashes which cost him points. Adeuri had a rough start but fixed the situation with a big Backside 317. He managed to maintain his lead and advances to the Semi-finals. Anthar Racca looked set to join him, just knocking out Kalu de Sousa and Stefan Spiessberger in a tight heat for all riders. Heat 14 Heat 14 sadly saw Former World Champion Youri Zoon sustain an injury to his knee, and withdraw from the competition. Very bad luck considering how well he had been riding for the start of the heat. Set Teixeira from Brazil wasted no time, and landed a big KGB amongst his tricks. WKC Dakhla – Elite Championship – Day Two

Competition commenced at 12 midday with optimal conditions and a high tide. Round 2 for the Men was completed together with Round 1 for the Women. Heat 1 – French rider Louka Pitot opened the day with a solid Front Blind Mobe and Double Heart Attack, a nice start for Heat 1. Austrian rider Stefan Spiessberger crashed his first attempt but made up for it landing solid tricks for his remaining attempts including a Front Blind Mobe and a Backside 315. His perseverance was rewarded with a spot in Round 3. Joining him was Louka Pitot who rode a good heat playing it safe and locking down his spot in the next round. Heat 2 – There were difficulties to complete Heat 2 after several stops and starts due to dropping wind conditions. After a short lunch break the heat was finally resumed at 3.30 pm starting with the 4th attempt. Young rider Maxime Chabloz from Switzerland landed a good array of tricks, riding his 13m kite. His Slim 7 scored him 7.77 points. Anthar Racca from Mexico remained close behind him throughout the heat. It all come down to the final trick attempts, where Raccalanded a powered Backside 317 …

WKC Dakhla – Qualifier Championship – Day Two

The day started off strong for Day Two of the Qualifier Championship in Dakhla, Morocco, with the wind blowing over 25 knots from the early morning. The Men’s Rounds 3 and 4 were completed, together with the Women’s Small Final. Heat 13 – Heat 13 was the first in sequence, and the athletes hit the water with the wind pumping and the tide high at 10.30 am. Belgian/Spanish rider Jerome Cloetens was on fine form for the start of the day, opening with several good tricks, including a nice Double Heart Attack. He clinched the spot in the Semi-Final, together with Frenchman Nico Delmas, who knocked out Sergei Borisov by just 0.01 points, a very tight ending to this first heat of the day. Heat 14 – Four french athletes came together for Heat 14, each one wanting to beat his fellow team mate for a chance to advance to the semis. Each athlete pushed to go bigger, but struggled to land their attempts due to the increasing wind conditions. Arthur Guillebert and Louka Pitot managed to keep a lead on their competitors, trying their best to perform solid tricks in the gusty wind conditions. Their effort paid off as …
