Clinic and Prize-Giving at Day 6 of WKT Youth Cup 2016

The World Kite Tour Youth Cup 2016 ended up today, allowing the new generation of riders to be fully focused on the technical clinic in the morning. In front of an attentive meeting, judge Carlos Sáez started sharing his experience, delivering useful advices. The following few hours were spent waiting for the wind to pick up enough to finish the 2 hours left of the double elimination of the boys U15 and U19. However the wind never materialized and the event was called off at 4 pm. Later in the day, the event came to an end with the closing ceremony which crowned all winners: Kacper Lepicki (Poland, Boys U11) Mikaili Rocha (Brazil, Girls U15) Oscar Pirreneau (France, Boys U15) Claudia León (Spain, U17) Maxime Chabloz (Switzerland, Boys U17) They gave each other high fives, happy to win and already sad to leave the amazing kiteboarding spot at La Ballena Alegre camping, in Sant Pere Pescador. Clinic, Action and Results on Day 5 at WKT Youth Cup 2016

The fifth day of the Youth Cup 2016 in Costa Brava saw an immediate start to the action directly after the Scoring Clinic. With the conditions for the day looking good, the riders prepared themselves around 12 to be immediately immersed in the day’s events, and to continue with the boys U17, boys U15 and Women’s Double Eliminations. We were graced with the best day of wind of this summer so far according to locals. The young shredders weren’t short of tricks to display and the day offered spectators the best day of action of the Youth Cup 2016. Today riders who lost in the single had the chance to battle out for the world champion crown in each category. They’ve been training hard all year round for this moment and the action performed today was top notch as expected. In the girls U17 the local rider Nina Font (ESP) rode amazingly well today fighting back to back to the final where she met and defeated Claudia León (ESP). Incredible Level on Day 4 – Youth Cup 2016

The 4th day of the WKT Youth Cup 2016 started today with a clinic for the kids regarding competition format, code of conduct and strategy during the heat. It was the turn for the Spanish riders. Right after the clinic the wind started to pick up and we started with a Round Robin between the two only U11 riders; Kacper Lepicky (POL) and the Brazilian Kaiki Mar (BRA). They put a nice show despite the light wind and in the end the Polish won the battle. We continued with the U17 boy’s category. Tight quarter finals between the young talented riders. Choppy conditions but with slightly lighter winds than previous days, allowed riders to go out on their 12 to 14m kites. The beach of St. Pere Pescador was once again filled with spectators and families ready to cheer up the kids. Christian Tio (PHI), the talented Philippine rider could finally show us his skills getting Robby Krikken (FRA) out of the ladder and going straight to the semifinals against the Frenchman Romain Guilliano (FRA). Clinic and Action on Day 3 at WKT Youth Cup 2016

For the third day of competition up-and-coming talents were given their first clinic. World Kite Tour (WKT) Youth Cup is also a learning experience. Young talented kiteboarders are given advices and information to improve their performance during competition. During the morning, judges explained how the scoring system works by detailing the trick categories and judging criteria. It’s relevant for future World Kite Tour generations to understand and be clear with rules and scoring system to perform their best. They also received advice regarding behavior during heats and out of the water. Later on, after the clinic, while waiting for the action to start, kids made the most of their time chilling on the beach. Wind picked up around 14:20 p.m. (GMT+2), allowing riders to finally get ready for their heats. U17 quarterfinals saw Nino Liboni (FR) facing Lars de Groof (Bel) in an extremely close heat. Both riders came out strong, head to head, while spectators applauded each of the tricks they landed. The Belgium national did an amazing job but Liboni was slightly more technical and made the difference, advancing into the semifinal where he will fight his good friend Maxime Chabloz (Switzerland) – one of the toughest competitors …
