Saturday 15th June Report: Matt Pearce / All photos: Svetlana Romantsova / Video: Mint Grigas The riders battled their way through to the semi-finals yesterday on the second day of the GKA Gran Canaria in super challenging conditions. By the end of the day, round three was complete, so the eight male riders who’d made it to the semis were guaranteed a joint first place if no further heats were able to run. For the women however, they still needed to complete the semi-finals to get a result so the pressure is on today! WKC Cumbuco – Elite Championship – Semi-Finals

It was a rainy start to day three in Cumbuco, Brazil, but by 11am the clouds opened up and the competition commenced. Both the Men’s and Women’s semi-finals were completed with amazing conditions, with 8 male and 8 female athletes battling for a position in tomorrow’s finals. Men’s Semi – Final One An incredible level of riding was displayed from the very start as these 4 powerful athletes performed highly technical tricks from the very start of the semi-finals. Gianmaria Coccoluto performed incredibly, opening with a massive Backside 317 and followed it up with a Heart Attack 7 scoring 9.23 that left the crowds in a frenzy. It was incredibly well executed, and really raised the bar during this difficult semi-final heat. Liam Whaley was going big, and landed a fantastic Slim 7 that gave him the lead on the 5th trick attempt. Adeuri Corniel from the Dominican Republic started with three strong tricks but two consecutive crashes put some pressure on him towards the end of the heat. WKC Akyaka – Day Three

Report from Day Three in Akyaka, Turkey. Day Three saw the completion of the Semi-finals for Men and Women, with the reliable Akyaka thermal winds commencing at midday as was forecasted. Heat 15 was first in sequence, after being cancelled yesterday after the 3rd trick attempt. This heat saw two Former World Champions, Alex Pastor and Youri Zoon, head against two up and coming athletes, Nino Liboni and Arthur Guillebert. Alex Pastor continued on his strong performance from yesterday, and was absolutely in his zone throughout the heat, looking calm and collected as he landed trick after trick in his classic AP style, finishing the heat with a nice KGB5. Youri Zoon was feeling good, and landed a nice KGB5 of his own. Despite crashing his last trick attempt, he advances just behind Alex Pastor into the Semi-Finals. Heat 16 was a tough competition from the very start. Adeuri Corniel from the Dominican Republic blasted out a nice Backside 317 to get things going. Carlos Mario, our current World Champion, was on fire as usual, and for his third trick attempt he pulled out an incredible Heart Attack 7, scoring 9.73.
