Final day at the VKWC St. Peter Ording

St. Peter Ording delivered outstanding conditions over the entire 10 days of the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup. The global kitesurfing elite gathered together, completing the full Trials, Freestyle Elimination, and 5 full Slalom Eliminations. With the freestyle already completed by Thursday, the final two days of the VKWC St. Peter Ording were dedicated purely to the slalom racers. The fastest men and women hit the water prepared to show us their pace and power in a fight to cement their positions at the top of the rankings. We saw variable wind conditions for the continuation of the Slalom Discipline. Men’s Elimination 4 began under partly cloudy skies with onshore wind. This was a big contrast to the off shore wind conditions during the previous eliminations, challenging racers with a course full of chop and some moderate waves at the finish. Julien Kerneur (FR/Airush) and Marvin Baumeister (AU/Flysurfer) battled it out and crusied into the final taking 1st and 2nd in Heats 3 and 8! But in the final their rivalry ended in a climactic kite collision that took both riders out of the race! It was Florian Gruber (DE/Ozone), Olly Bridge (GB/North), and Jannis Maus (DE/North) who advanced to the …

Hadlow and Pulido take the win on day 7 of the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup

Today was certainly a day to remember for 5x World Champion Aaron Hadlow (GB/North) and 9x World Champion Gisela Pulido (ES/Best), who both put on performances that were nothing short of exceptional! Fighting their way up the freestyle ladder, they faced each opponent with outstanding strength and determination, giving each of them a truly deserved victory. The weather for the day was once again extremely tough, with the wind blowing up to 30 knots. The heats got underway at 9.15 am, with all the freestyle riders pushing hard in each intense battle. For the quarter finals, there was an extremely tight heat between 2x World Champion Youri Zoon (NL/Best) and Aaron Hadlow (GB/North). Zoon was on form, landing an impressive 317 and S-Mobe 7. However, Hadlow performed an even bigger S-Mobe 7 in an intense final minutes of the heat. In the end, Hadlow took the victory from Zoon’s grasp. Recent qualifier Jerome Cloetens (BE/North) came face to face with Carlos Mario (BR/Slingshot) in the second heat of the quarter finals. There were perfect kickers and flat water on the inside, which created some optimal conditions for the riders. Both young guns went all in during their heat, throwing one …

Day 5 at the VKWC in St. Peter Ording

For day 5 of the Pringles Kitesurf World Cup we awoke to strong winds and rainy weather. Quite the contrast to the last sunny days here in St. Peter Ording. After the 8am riders meeting, the Men’s Freestyle Qualifiers got underway immediately. The conditions were not at all easy, with rain and gusty winds of up to 30 knots, but the riders put on an amazing performance to try and work their way up the freestyle ladder and fight for one of the 8 spots available in the main event. Some hightlights of the morning included Russian rider Anton Cherkashin (RU/Cabrinha) who did a massive 315 off the kicker, a great performance which allowed him to advance to round three. Also advancing was Patrick Blanc (ES/Ozone) who showed that he is a rider with plenty of experience and pulled off an amazing and clean heat, especially considering how difficult the conditions were. The Freestyle Qualifiers were run consistenly throughout the day. Needing to complete a total of 56 heats, it was non-stop freestyle action back to back. The rider’s were fighting hard, and the public thoroughly enjoyed watching all the new, young, up and coming riders who were each hoping …

The women were also on fire, and the current top rankings are Katja Roose (NED/Airush), Annelous Lammerts (NED/Slingshot), Bibiana Magaji (SVK/Core) and Marie Lou Fourre (VEN/Crazyfly). Stef Bridge (GB/North) won the first elimination but unfortunately could not participate in the second elimination as she had to assist one of her sons who had a minor hand cut. Let’s see if she will be able to gain the lost ground on the upcoming eliminations. After a short break, the competition resumed with the start of the Freestyle …
