Jeep Tarifa Pro 2018 – Day 3 – GKA Kite-Surf World Tour Action

Watch the action video from Day 3 at Valdevaqueros! THE KSWT STRAPLESS CREW’S LATE-LATE SHOW AT THEIR SPIRITUAL CONTEST HOME! Once again we were waiting till the late afternoon but the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour riders were finally called upon to create the show with their strapless skills in around 15-18 knots. At the site of the first world strapless competition five years ago, the big upset for the crowds was Simon Joosten from Barbados ousting Keahi de Aboitiz from the single elimination in his first heat! Among the other highlights, Matchu Lopes pieced together a complicated new trick, called a front roll to rodeo with a board varial revert… we think! Anyway, the crowd loved it and we hope to see it again (look out for the video)! Then, in quickly dropping winds, Airton Cozzolino stepped up in the final heat of round two to prove that he barely needs wind to stomp tricks, like his signature flat 3 and more. The other positive: with just 16 riders left in the single elimination, a valid result stands for those riders and they can take points away. If the Poniente and thermal combine positively again tomorrow, we will have both …

Jeep Tarifa Pro 2018 – Day 2

The Air Games riders step-up on Day 2 at the Jeep Tarifa Pro 2018. On day 2 the focus switches to the Kiteboarding ‘Air Games’ World Tour in this unique double bill event at the Jeep Tarifa Pro. The Jeep Tarifa Pro stages round two of the Kiteboarding ‘Air Games’ World Tour but will be the first time that we get to see action on this tour after round one in Leucate, France suffered a lack of wind for the entire event. A first in Leucate’s 20 year history of staging events! The forecast for Jeep Tarifa Pro is calling for light Poniente winds all week, but Valdevaqueros benefits from a daily thermal increase in the wind speed. So typically of this bustling and lively kiteboarding hub that draws visitors in equal measure for its night time appeal as its on-water action, we’re unlikely to see event starts before lunch this week. REGISTERED RIDERS AND FORMAT 38 MEN / 11 WOMEN have registered today at the Jeep Tarifa Pro for the GKA Kiteboarding ‘Air Games’ World Tour. We are still yet to see the first action on this exciting new tour format. After the rider’s meeting at the last event …

Jeep Tarifa Pro 2018 – Day 1

The Jeep Tarifa Pro 2018 kicks off! Tuesday morning saw the start of what could be a momentous week in world kiteboarding competition as the two GKA World Tours line up to compete at one thrilling event: the Jeep Tarifa Pro 2018. For the last three years this event has staged the GKA Kite-Surf World Tour (a wave and strapless freestyle world tour – the round in Tarifa focuses on the strapless freestyle side of the discipline as there are fewer waves at this time of year). This year the event also welcomes the GKA Kiteboarding World Tour ‘Air Games’ riders as well. That means there will be a total of 90 riders competing in these sunny Valdevaqueros waters in front of an always adoring Tarifan crowd. GKA Kite-Surf World Tour Portugal -Day Two

There were no changes in the wind stakes today in Viana do Castelo but the rain’s stopped, the sun’s begun to shine and the swell’s not backing off either! Airton, Mitu and the boys seize on a selfie opportunity / Photo: Ydwer van der Heide The wind doesn’t tend to fill in before midday here when a thermic effect builds on the mountains that lie a little further inland from Viana, so this morning the riders headed into town to take in some culture and explore while they waited to see what conditions the day would bring. The crew hits the streets of Viana / Photo: Ydwer van der Heide Viana’s charming with a sleepy vibe, a picturesque old town and some stunning views from atop the hill where an imposing stone-built church, the Santuário de Santa Luzia, looks over Viana itself and the kite spot down on Cabedelo beach. The riders were stoked to get a chance to eye up the spot from such a vantage point and, after two days of no wind, they might also welcome some intervention from a higher being right now as they wait to kick off the main event! GKA Kite-Surf World Tour Round 3: Portugal begins today!

The GKA KSWT has landed in Portugal at Viana do Castelo for the event that runs until 12th June. The action will be taking place on Cabedelo Beach in front of event host, Feel Viana Hotel. At this time of year Viana do Castelo benefits from the reliable El Nortada winds as well as solid Atlantic swells. This will be the third right hand wave for the tour in 2018 and the main wave spot is protected by a sea wall making for ultra-clean, glassy wave riding conditions – a perfect playground for a World Tour event! Reigning champ Airton Cozzolino has been steadily building his lead since round one in Cape Verde, but Keahi de Aboitiz has maintained consistent pressure from second place. With the tour about to reach its halfway point, if anyone’s going to unseat Airton, then this event is crucial. Airton Cozzolino – the man to beat / Photo: Ydwer van der Heide Things are also hotting up in the women’s division with top ranked riders Jalou Langeree and Moona Whyte now level on points, so this is a chance for someone to pull ahead. However, Portuguese rider Inês Correia has been unshakable in third place …
