Congratulations to our 2017 World Champions

The spectacular spot of Duro Beach was the ideal setting this evening to crown our new World Champions! After patiently waiting for an improvement in wind conditions, the competition was finalized today, and the Champions were crowned in front of the crowds in Cumbuco. The overall results for 2017 are as follows: Men: 1st Place – Carlos Mario – Brazil What an amazing season it has been for Carlos Mario! After a tough start in Leucate, and dealing with a slight injury, Mario started the season with 2nd place. He went on in Egypt to give us an outstanding final, with the highest heat scores the WKL has ever seen. Carlos Mario has pushed the bar to its highest, and he just keeps going further. Delighted to be winning his 2nd World Title, he had the following to say about his 2017 season: “At the beginning of the championship which was in France I worried because I had an injury in my arm and was able to compete but I did not train beforehand, and I was surprised with my performance. WKL Cumbuco – Day Two

The Elite League competition commenced today in Cumbuco, Brazil, where Heats 1 to 3 were completed for the men, which the competition put on hold from Heat 4 due to the dropping wind conditions. The morning started with Round 1 Heat 1 for the men, which saw Luis Alberto Cruz from the Dominican Republic start the day with a bang, throwing an impressive 317 right at the start. He continued riding exceptionally well, even though he has been recovering from an injury sustained in the final in El Gouna, where he hurt his ribs. He showed no sign of weakness as he continued gaining high scores, and will pass through directly to Round 3. Joining him will be young Brazilian rider Manoel Soares, only 17 years of age, who rode a fantastic heat, not crashing any of his trick attempts. He also advances directly to Round 3. Heat 2 saw former World Champion Liam Whaley struggle to gain his focus during the start of his heat, but managed to turn it around impressively towards the end, gaining some great scores that put him in 1st position on his last trick attempt. 17 year old Adeuri Corniel from Cabarete will be …

WKL Cumbuco – Day One – Wildcard Qualifiers

Perfect wind conditions welcomed us for the start of the Wildcard Qualifiers today at Duro Beach, Cumbuco, where the Men’s and Women’s competition was completed, and the two wildcards for the Elite Event were awarded. The level of riding from the national riders in Brazil is incredibly high, and today was an ideal opportunity to showcase the local talent. The Men’s ladder consisted of 3 rounds, a total of 4 heats. The 11 competitors did their best tricks in Rounds 1 and 2, until it came down to the top 6 male competitors for the final. All the athletes fought their hardest with their eye on the prize, but it was Erick Anderson who claimed the win, after crashing only one of his seven trick attempts. This means that the Men’s wildcard goes to Anderson, and he will be competing in the Elite League event starting tomorrow. For the Women’s Qualifier, there was a total of two heats. A first 4 woman heat, followed by a final where the top two would battle it out for entry into the Elite League event. The final of the Wildcard Qualifier came down to two competitors, Dioneia Vieria, an experienced competitor, and young …

WKL Cumbuco – Registration Day

The World Tour returns to the perfect and picturesque kitesurfing spot of Cumbuco, located 25 kilometres North West of the city of Fortaleza, Brazil. This spot needs no introduction for kiteboarding fanatics, as it has long been known as one of the best spots in the World, thanks to its ideal wind conditions and balmy temperatures. This week Duro Beach will host the final Elite League event of 2017, where we will see our champions crowned! The event will commence tomorrow, 6th of December, with a Wildcard Qualifier, which is open to Brazilian riders. There are 11 men and 4 women registered for this Qualifier, which will see one wildcard given for the Men and another for the Women, to compete in the Elite League event. The pressure is high to see which of the talented local riders will be joining the top riders in the World! The Elite League event will commence on the 7th of December, and this will see the top 24 men and 12 women of over 15 different nationalities fight for the World Title. Making Kiteboarding History – Elite League Finals in El Gouna

Final Day at the El Gouna RRD Centre Kiteboarding World Cup The final day at the El Gouna RRD Centre Kiteboarding World Cup was nothing short of spectacular. With 7 heats back to back throughout the day, we saw perfect 10’s, boundaries being pushed, tears, unfortunate injuries, and history being made for freestyle kiteboarding, as our champions for this 4th Elite League event were crowned in front of the fans on the beach of El Gouna. Women’s Semi-Finals The day commenced with the completion of the Semi-finals for the Women. Heat 7 saw the ladies struggling slightly being the first on the water, dealing with gustier wind and choppy waters. Local wildcard Nathalie Lambrecht tried her best, but could not land the tricks she really wanted to perform. Therese Taabbel, Danish Champion, fought her hardest to advance to the final, but unfortunately it was not to be. Francesca Bagnoli from Italy managed to perform an amazing Slim Chance on her last trick attempt, and this secured her 2nd place, and opened the door to the finals. Elite League Day 2 – El Gouna RRD Centre Kiteboarding World Cup

Another day of wind and sunshine in El Gouna, Egypt. Day 2 of the Elite League allowed for the completion of Round 2 for the Women and Round 3 for the Men. The wind commenced with strong conditions in the early morning of 20 to 25 knots, and dropped in the early afternoon. Women’s Round 2 The first heat of the day was Heat 5 for the ladies. This saw two french riders, Maureen Castelle and Pauline Valesa, keep a safe lead ahead of their competitors throughout the duration of the heat. Dutch riders Isabeau Galiart and Lidwij Hartog struggled to maintain their composure during this second round of competition, which meant that it was Valesa and Castelle who advanced to the semi-finals, yet another very strong performance from the French team. Rita Arnaus started Heat 6 with a look of solid determination, eager to replicate her incredible performance in Akyaka, and things seemed to heading the right way when she landed an outstanding Hinterberger Mobe scoring her 9.1 points. However, she encountered some difficulties with the remainder of her trick attempts, and unfortunately did not advance any further in the competition much to her disappointment. Elite League Day 1 – El Gouna RRD Centre Kiteboarding World Cup

El Gouna was once again graced with good winds to start Day 1 of the Elite League event in Egypt. Slightly stronger and gustier than we have seen on previous days, it was sufficient to complete Rounds 1 and 2 for both the men and Round 1 for the women. The freestyle action was intense from the very start of Day 1. We witnessed many surprises, a few early exits, and a strong uprising of young kiteboarding talent ready to take on the established veteran riders. Men’s Round 1 Set Teixeira from Brazil showed us he was on fine form during Heat 1. He put on a confident display of riding throughout, and was extremely happy to pass directly through to Round 3. Luis Alberto Cruz from the Dominican Republic will be joining him, as he also showed determination to skip a round and advance through the competition. The other riders in Heat 1 were not as lucky, and struggled to really pull themselves together for this early start on the water. Alex Pastor, former World Champion, took a heavy crash on his 5th trick attempt and although he managed to relaunch his kite and return to shore, he was …
