Solaire Blue Open 2017 – Day 4

Day 4 brought wind and motivated riders who were on a mission to either win, or get back in the game. First up were the men battling it out in the consolation/dingle round. This would give the top 3 lads the chance to join the official ‘Solaire Blue Palawan Open Final’ the following day, joining the likes of Brandon Schied, Ewan Jaspan and Sam Light. The conditions delivered and the weekend spectators both local and international were there in full force to watch the impressive and exciting show that ensued. Although the guys put on one hell of a show, it was the women’s final that brought heat and excitement to the beach. We’ll be catching up with the official judges for an breakdown later on, but Annelous Lammerts made kiteboarding history as the first women Ever in kite park riding to land a toe-side backside 5 in a KPL event. Sensi Graves showcased her confident style along with longterm friend Colleen Carroll who’s cable riding translated seamlessly into kiteboarding.

Solaire Blue Open 2017 – Day 3

Day 3 of the Solaire Blue Open 2017 was greeted with textbook conditions for the competition to get underway. Riders gathered for their final briefing from the event organisers and judges, before undertaking their pre-game rituals and preparations. As the heats got underway, the inevitable elimination and progression process ensued. In an event such as this, anything goes. The judging criteria is strict and demanding, and every competitor is prepped to and ready rise to the challenge. No doubt that the level of riding across the board was more than impressive, with kiteboarding’s biggest names making the line-up. With individual style shining through from each rider, there were a few epic moments and ‘firsts’ that saw the spectators and fellow riders stand up from their seats! Brandon Shied from the US stomped a Moby Dick 5 on the Solaire kicker, securing him an 8.5 and the highest score of the day. Noe Font from Spain and international NorthKiteboarding team rider topped the leader board with a 6.5 on the It’s More Fun In The Philippines roof top, with a ledge transfer back tail. However, with all the innovative riding and style throughout the day, there was one rider that shonebrighter …

Solaire Blue Open 2017 – Day 2

The wind was not in our favor for day 2 of the Solaire Blue Open, however the fantastic set up at Blue Palawan along with blazing sunshine and a beautiful island to be discovered, everyone was set for a great day. Some chose to take a beautiful drive through the colorful and vivid nature that represents the island to Olangoan waterfalls. Yet to be exposed to the tourist industry, the two-storied cascading waterfall provided hours of entertainment and epic cliff jumping for the riders looking to release some energy. Back at the beach – Blue Palawan – there was time for interviews and behind the scenes content with Tom Court, who is currently recovering from an ACL reconstruction. Whilst some took the opportunity to kick back and relax, the ground team made sure that the world class park was all in-check. With health and wellbeing being a huge part of kiteboarding, Sensi Graves, Colleen Carroll, Manuela Jungo and Izzy Von Zastrow, along with event photographer Toby Bromwich, decided to take a trip to The Old Market to discover the local produce. The forecast for tomorrow is looking ideal for the competition to get underway, and with the heats now solidified …
