Four Time Russian kiteboarding champion Eugene Novožeev, from Moscow and Konstantin Aksyonov, from St. Petersburg, crossed the Bering Straight by kite.

Some other teams have tried to accomplish this mission, including Maurice Lacroix of France a couple months back, but none have been successful, making the Russians the first to actually make the entire 96km (56 miles) distance. The team started in Chukotka, Russia and finished up in Alaska. (pictured at left Eugene Novozeev/photo credited Tatiana Dorogutinoj)

It’s an impressive accomplishment considering the area is known for some of the worst weather on the planet and we don’t have to tell you how cold it is!

Another team consisting of Troy Henkels (Alaska) and Geza Sholtz (Switzerland) had planned to go for it this summer but we’ll see now if they will try to make the crossing.
