55 racers joining Pryde Racing Camp in Scandinavia

Water temperatures of 6 degree Celsius are no problem – said 55 Scandinavian happy racers after joining the Neilpryde Scandinavia Race Camp in Eastern. Huge talent is on the way up! – says coach and Neilpryde Scandinavia boss Torben Kornum.

The sky was beautiful, and the winds were great for Formula and Slalom. Racers, coaches and supporters enjoyed four action packed days in the Skive Yacht Club that has become a central racing and training center for many racers in the cold north.

“We were very impressed with the level of especially the younger talents. At least 2-3 of them have potential for future top results in international events, and we are keen to support them on their way to the top. It was first time we made an official training camp that early in the season, and frankly spoken we had no idea how many people would show up. But racing has always been strong here in Scandinavia, and the numbers are clearly increasing, which is also why we have set up the Pryde Scandinavia Racing project that is running several open activities throughout the season” says Torben Kornum.

International team rider Sebastian Kornum made a quick pit stop in his hometown after coming back from 5 months on Maui, where he has been working with Robert Stroj on development of the 2016 NeilPryde program. The 22 year old racer rigged up a brand new EVO7 sail and made an interesting clinic with lots of valuable input before he packed his gear and went on to Portugal for the 2015 Formula Worlds.

Coach duo Christian Justesen and Torben Kornum had two RIB boats available for the camp and quickly set out buoys for both Slalom and Formula Windsurfing. “Simplicity is key to success in a race camp” – says Justesen who managed to arrange a total of 32 starts throughout the camp. “Between the starts we had plenty of opportunity to advice the racers, and we did also manage to make short learning videos and photos, although of course it was a bit bumpy on the water, steering the RIB with one hand, and holding the camera with the other hand.”
