MOTO 2023 Day2

THE 2nd DAY OF THE MASTER OF THE OCEAN 2023 WAS A COMMUNITY DAY WITH WATERSPORTS ACTION!
CABARETE, Dominican Republic- 24th of February, 2023
The second day of the Master of the Ocean 2023 started with tropical sunshine once more and a cool breeze for the athletes and spectators at the spectacular competition site. Nature brought lighter conditions than the day before and the waves remained mostly small for the first SUP Overall heats of the day after the Skipper´s Meeting.
There was an excited crowd as Franzi Fix (Dominican Republic) rode many glassy waves finishing first in his SUP Overall heat. Christopher ¨del Mar¨ Buenger, Captain of the German Condor Team, also managed to snag first place in his SUP Overall heat displaying some great cut backs and bottom turns despite the small conditions. Antonio Lusson from Cuba, a waterports pioneer in his homeland, also came in first in his heat showing the spectators that Cuba is a fertile training ground for world class watersports athletes. It is great to see many competitors from the other Caribbean Islands and from all over the world at the Master of the Ocean 2023 coming together in a spirit of companionship on the water!
The morning was filled with non-stop action and afterwards there were a series of wing foil heats that were completed with Linus Erdmann (Germany), Bobo Gallagher (Hawaii) and Balz Mueller (Switzerland) all placing first in their respective heats despite the very light and challenging wind conditions. The rest of the afternoon did not have adequate conditions for the wind sports or for the down winder. Nature Rules!
The 24th was also Community and Sustainability Day at Master of the Ocean 2023 with a myriad of community and environmental activities in conjunction with Happy Dolphins DR including ocean conservation talks for children with a marine science specialist from Beyond the Waves DR, coral nursery demonstrations with Iberostar/GIZ, lifesaving demonstrations with Kymera and Inspire DR, wing foiling lessons and talks on the beach with young athletes, folkloric drumming from the New Horizons girls’ ensemble and other activities. It was a day of fun and community spirit!
The day ended on a high note with tropical beats and a spectacular sunset at Natura Cabana with a fundraiser event for Happy Dolphins DR in order to prevent drownings and promote lifesaving in the Dominican Republic!
