North: Which equipment did you mainly use during the races in Noumea?
Pierre: Before to come here we were not sure about the conditions, some people said it is always windy some said you gonna use all the time the big stuff if you are lucky to race. But finally we had some really good conditions and the combo here was 7.8 WARP + Falcon 110. I sailed 95% of my heats with it and just made a try with the 7.0 but it didn’t deliver enough power for the type of spot (everybody kept the 7.8 until 28-29kts here).

North: How close was it become 3rd overall this year and how did you manage to keep down the pressure?
Pierre: It was hard, this year since the level was super super high! On every single race you could have 20 different winners and each round was important. I tried to never count the points all around the year and stay focused on sailing well and be always qualified for the winner ´s finals. I was super consistent and after La Torche the podium was secured with a discard of 6th. Before coming here, I still had a chance to be World Champ but the way was not so easy. I learned a lot from the past year especially with Alaçati 2013 where I was leading during all the event before to loose everything on the last day. This was definitely a trigger for learning a lot about how keep down the pressure. Maybe I try to not think so much about it and I did not really realize yet what I achieved.

North: You showed good consistency throughout the year. Who was your trainings partner on and off the water during the last months?
Pierre: The consistency is the main reason of this amazing season and it’s really important as soon as you have a super long year like this. Since 2 years I worked with a physics preparator and the result is that I can stay focused during the whole season, stay strong and avoid any injuries. On the wate, I spent lot of time on my equipment and try to sail at different spots during all my preparation. I was in St. Barth in the Caribbean during January where I could sail my big equipment on wavy conditions after that I went to Tarifa where I had all the conditions possible, I was lucky to go to Maui in March where I sailed a lot with Matteo Iachino. For testing and training it was a really nice part of the season preparation. And at home I was lucky to have various conditions. The equipment was really good and one thing was very important: I was confident with every single sail/board combo I had. This can explain my consistency, too.

North: What are your next goals as professional windsurfer?
Pierre: For next year the first goal will be to keep this podium place but for sure in my head I have now the gold medal. We will see..

North: How do your week-ends look like without windsurfing?
Pierre: I think I can count this kind of week-end on one hand! It was a busy year. As soon as I could I tried to spend time with my family but at the end it is often on the water with my girl friend, sister/brother and my parents, too! And after sharing a good session I really like to have a good dinner with a bottle of old French red wine;-) .
