This year, the South American wave and slalom championship took place during the Pacasmayo Classic in Peru.

For the Wave event, the South Americans was combined with the AWT (American Windsurfing Tour) bringing a very high level of sailors to the competition with no one wanting to miss out on the legendary, long Pacasmayo down-the-line waves at el Faro. During the first four days of the contest all the wave series were completed with the Pro division finishing first in perfect conditions, followed by the Master, Amateurs and Youth.

In the AWT Pro Division, the title went to Camile Juban followed by TeamPryde’s Wilhelm Schurmann in second and Kevin Pritchard in third.

In the AWT Masters it was Kevin Pritchard followed by Wilhelm Schurmann in second and Chris Freeman in third.

The South American wave results were taken from the AWT results and, with this, Wilhelm Schurmann took the South American Champions in both the Pro and Masters divisions.

After the completion of the wave event it was time for the slalom to come into action. The timing couldn’t have been better, as the waves and wind died along the coast but the wind actually picked up at the Gallito Ciego lake/dam where the slalom was held providing excellent conditions during the two days of competition.

Wilhelm Schurmann, on his NeilPryde RS:Racing EVOV 7.8, took seven bullets in eight finals to take the South American title. He was followed by countryman Mathias Pinheiro BRA5 in second and Joao Henrique BRA251 in third, respectively.

The Pacasmayo Classic was an incredible event, with excellent conditions, great sailors and the amazing atmosphere that the Peruvian people create at this fantastic spot.
