Christos Loizou ist das wahrscheinlich größte Freestyle Talent Zyperns und obwohl er zuhause nicht gerade viele Sessions scored gibts seit gestern einen neuen Clip. Der 18-jährige hatte schon einige Hürden zu meistern und hätte Windsurfen schon beinahe an den Nagel hängen können, doch nun ist er zurück und in guter Form doch das nächste Problem steht bereits an. In Zypern gilt noch immer die Wehrpflicht und das für satte 24 Monate was das Ende seines Traums einer professionellen Windsurfkarriere bedeuten würde.

Bleibt nur zu Hoffen dass Christos einen Weg findet offiziell als Leistungssportler der Wehrpflicht entgehen zu können, denn Zivildienst, welcher beispielsweise in Deutschland für viele Windsurfer ein Glückslos war, gibt es leider nicht.

Christos Loizou probably is the biggest freestyle windsurfing talent in Cyprus and he just published a new webclip with footage of his rare sessions from home. He already started on the EFPT Tour last year and had to fight against a serious injury but never gave up. He’s back on the board and in good form but the next problem is already around the corner. Christos has to join the military for 24 months which would mean almost no windsurf training at all and possibly the end of his dream to become a professional windsurfer.

I really hope there’s some support for him to keep his dream alive. A few years ago we still had this compulsory military service in germany as well but most of us windsurfers simply did community service close to a proper windsurf spot. I did so as well , had a blast and possibly will never have so much time to train all my life again. In Cyprus there’s no alternative…
